Meet the Playerz – September Edition: Steve Roney
He’s the “everyman” player that fans find so amazing, maybe because he looks likes everyone’s friendly next door neighbor or your kids’ soccer coach—only a heckuv a lot funnier. The “Jimmy Stewart” of ComedySportz, Steve Roney has been making our fans laugh for over eight years and he never fails to disappoint. Often the lynch pin of his team, Steve can go from playing the straight man to goofiest character on stage at the drop of a hat. That’s why he’s September’s Player of the Month!
1. Your name and nickname: Steve “Rice-a” or “Pepper” or “Minest” or “Tender” Roney (hey, you can do a lot with “Roney”).
2. Your player #: 45
3. Year you joined CSz 2001? Whatever year Josh and Dritsas joined.
4. High School attended: Monsignor Bonner, a school that is especially geared toward gifted middle-of-the-roaders who don’t want to stand out (but are gifted… really… we are).
5. College (and grad school) attended: Saint (not “St.”) Joseph’s University.
6. Favorite CSz game: Five Things, with Forward/Reverse a close second.
7. Favorite memory involving a fan: Getting smacked on the rear-end by a woman in the front row as I was high-fiving the audience during the top-of-show introductions. Moments later, when Madame Voice called my number, I gave the woman a disapproving look while showing her my wedding ring.
8. Memorable show moment: Getting fellow player Alli Soowal to correctly guess “Free Masons” in Five Things.
9. Interesting fact (or 2) about yourself: I have nine siblings, eight of whom are women.
10. Voted Most Likely To… Set a strong scene platform and then fade into the background.
