The Philadelphia Fightin’ Amish took home the championship trophy at the 2010 ComedySportz World Championship, after a close contest with the formidable Chicago Bosses, at talented team of improv comics in their own right. But it was Philly who gained the winning points in the last chance round of the joke telling game of, “It’s Not You, It’s Me,” a hilarious game in which players tell jokes in the form of “break-up” lines using audience suggestions. Said Philly’s captain, Jason Stockale, “Our team pulled ahead in the 11th hour and turned that game into, ‘It’s not you, it’s US!’” He then proceeded to hug the trophy—perhaps a little to much to not to make it weird. The

The two teams battled it out on Saturday night, July 17th at the World Cafe Live to a sold out house of nearly 250 fans and almost 150 ComedySportz players from around the country and the world. The show was refereed by James Bailey of ComedySportz LA in California, who quickly fell in love with our fair city. “Thank you for a wonderful week,” he said. “It was a beautifully organized championship and I am in love with your city and your generous team!”

Even so, Bailey did have to contend a bit with the classically rowdy Philly fans. While no one threw batteries, one was lobed in word form as a suggestion during the game of elimination rap. When asked about the chance of any trouble, Executive Director David Dritsas said, ” Well, it is July, so we were pretty sure no one was going to throw snow balls. But just in case Santa wasn’t allowed ANYWHERE NEAR the building.”

ComedySportz Philly is ready to resume it’s regular shows at 2030 Sansom Street, every Saturday at 7:30 and 10:00.

But the Blue Team (with Adam Hoskins, Caroline Leopold, Lauren Geschel and captain Sue Taney) didn’t make it easy, taking the lead at one point by impressing the discriminating eyes of the audience judges.

The performance was a traditional ComedySportz format show with the class instructor, Kelly Jennings, serving as the referee. The show was the culmination the Summer Session 401, which always ends with a class performance for family, friends and supporters. For more information visit our classes section.

They students all worked really hard and are a terrific bunch of folks. We couldn’t be prouder.
