ComedySportz Improv Comedy Classes
Hey, you’ve seen the show. Now, it’s your turn to get up there and do it! Learn improv the ComedySportz way from the most experienced improv teachers in Philadelphia. Plus, it’s some of the most fun you’ll ever have in a class.
Over eight highly intensive yet extremely relaxed weeks, you’ll learn the basics of improvisation from our skilled professionals. You’ll develop a number of practical skills you can apply in almost any real-life situation, including creative problem-solving, quick-thinking skills, spontaneity, non-verbal communication, and having fun with strangers.
COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
Improv 101 :: Introduction to Improv
This course introduces you to the skills of improvisation; developing basic verbal and physical communication skills by exploring spontaneity, active listening, risk-taking, story-telling, character development, and more. Learn how to improvise in a safe, non-judgmental environment where the laughter comes easy and fun is the name of the game. No prerequisite except a willingness for silliness.
Improv 201 :: Introduction to Scenework
This course introduces you to the building blocks of scenework, giving you the tools to create honest relationship-driven scenes on stage. A few of our most popular games will be used to strengthen your listening, character, and scene-building muscles as you become a stronger, faster more bionic improviser. Giggles, chuckles, and guffaws included in course fee. Prerequisite: CSz 101 (Intro to Improv) or permission of Education Director.
Improv 301 :: Advanced Improv
This class continues the study of successful scene-work and adds more and more ComedySportz gamez to your repetoire. An open class for an invited audience may be performed on the final day of class. Prequisite: ComedySportz Intermediate level or permission of Education Director.
Improv 302 :: Intro to Musical Improv
Learn to add music to your improv—short-form or long. Accompanied by a live keyboardist, students will learn short-form singing games, as well as how to apply singing to scene-work. Solo, due and group numbers will all be covered! Don’t think you can sing? No problem! You’ll learn how wow an audience, even with an mediocre to average singing voice. At the end, show off your skills for family and friends. Prequisite: ComedySportz Intermediate level or permission of Education Director.
Improv 401 :: Expert Improv
You’ve been through the advanced, now take the next step with Expert level. Refine your game even further and learn the basics of what makes a good show. Then, show off your stuff in ComedySportz match performed by students for an invited audience on the final day of class. Prequisite: ComedySportz Intermediate level or permission of Education Director.
