World Championship

Description

You are about to see the biggest comedy event in Philadelphia this year!

The ComedySportz World Championship 2019. Thirty teams from across the United States and Kingdom descend on the City of Brotherly Love to compete for your laughs and the title of ComedySportz World Champion.

Championship matches take place July 25-27, 2019 at The Wilma Theater (265 S. Broad Street) on The Avenue of the Arts.

What is ComedySportz?

When you come to ComedySportz match, you'll see a comedy competition. A Referee oversees two teams of Players, one red and one blue, competing against each other with improv games based on the suggestions of you the Loyal Fans watching the match.  There are seven to ten games per match, with the occasional Volunteer Player joining us on the field!

Everything is made up on the spot.  Nothing is rehearsed.  ComedySportz Players are trained improvisers and comedians, quick-witted and funny. The competion is real but all in good fun. They play as hard as they can to make sure you are laughing and having a good time.

ComedySportz® Started in Milwaukee in 1984, and has been entertaining fans across the US and Europe for 30+ years, including right here in Philadelphia.

A Comedy Convention

This is the second time CSz Philadelphia has hosted the world championship. “The last time we hosted was in 2010.” says Executive Director Don Montrey. “We’ve grown as a company, CSz Worldwide has grown its membership, and Philly is a totally different city. We’ve all changed a lot in the past 9 years; it felt like a great time to reintroduce our friends to the greatest city, with the greatest fans in the world.”

During the week the players take workshops and tour the city, checking out famous Philly landmarks like The Art Museum, the Italian Market, and the birthplace of Larry Fine.

If you’ve seen ComedySportz, you are going to want to come back and check out these matches. “Loyal fans of ComedySportz are going to love seeing their favorite games played with a regional twist by other cities.” says Montrey. “New fans are going to get a high-energy introduction to some of the best comedic talent in the country, playing one of the longest running shows in the country.”
