Say "Yes and the City" This November!

Fans of SATC and improv comedy, November is for you! CSz Philadelphia is proud to welcome “Yes and the City,” an improvised parody of and homage to “Sex and the City,” the massively popular HBO series that debuted in 1998.

Creator Maddie Breske is bringing her popular show to the CSz stage for three Friday evenings in November: 11/7, 11/14, and 11/21. Additionally, there will be a Sunday matinee on 11/16. Tickets can be purchased at our website, or by clicking this link.

Maddie Breske is a Philadelphia-based theatre maker and comedienne who gets her kicks performing improv around Philadelphia with the Impulse Control Freaks, Yes and the City, PHIT, and ComedySportz. They also are a writer for Reductress and an Artistic Associate with The Strides Collective. Maddie is passionate about wigs, reality television, and putzing around. She is thrilled that Yes and the City is making its ComedySportz debut and hopes it's very glamorous.

Breske is a huge fan of the source material, noting, “I am on maybe my fifth or sixth Sex and the City rewatch. I think it's a show that was groundbreaking at the time it aired and started a trend of shows being made for turn of the century women. It's a comfort show for a lot of people and the characters are like old friends and maybe even remind them of their friends in real life. I think Sex and the City also gives you something new every time you watch it at a different point in your life.“

Of course, this is where the show itself is ripe for a gentle and loving comedic treatment. “[T]here are times it is absolutely ridiculous and the characters (Carrie Bradshaw, I am talking about you) make you want to rip your hair out. I wanted to see my good friends Carrie, Charlotte, Samatha, and Miranda in utterly ridiculous situations while poking fun at the mistakes they are obsessed with making over and over again. Yes and the City is a loving homage to the fantasy the show created and the characters we hold so dear.”

Breske promises that long-time fans and new viewers alike will find things that they love about this version. For example, cast member Freddy Bugyei says: “I think the wig draw is so fun, especially when I kept getting Miranda. Even being at the end of the line couldn't stop me from being Miranda. My favorite personal moment was my wig falling off during a bow. My favorite part of being in the group is being able to witness how funny everyone else is and I think the format really highlights our chemistry”

When asked what the audience can expect, Breske doesn’t hesitate: “Tomfoolery! Friendship! Wigs! Cosmopolitans! Nightlife! Romance!!!!!!” That sounds like a recipe for a great night out with great friends - and, as a reminder, CSz Philadelphia is BYOB.

Yes and the City opens November 7th, featuring the talents of Maeve Hennessey, Em Harnett, DJ Gleason, Freddy Bugyei, and Maddie Breske. Tickets are available for purchase now at CSz Philadelphia - Yes and the City.
